The story with the Sons of Destiny is that they are eight brothers, born in sets of twins, who fulfill an ancient prophecy promising all sorts of problems in the world. To avoid this, the powers that be strip the brothers of their rightful inheritance and lands, and ship them off to an island called Nightfall off the coast of the continent.

By name and prophecy title, the brother are:

Saber the Sword - the eldest, and rightful Count of Corvis. His magical talents are primarily offensive/defensive magics. He is also a talent weaponsmith.

Wolfer the Wolf - the second born, Saber's twin. He is a shapeshifter, whose favorite forms are a wolf and a stallion. (This is so far, and Jean might just add more shapes as the series continues). He does not shift into a bird form very often due to his fear of heights. He is also a skilled hunter and leatherworker.

Dominor the Master - third born son. Dominor doesn't really have a specialty, but studies just about every aspect of magic that he can. He is noted for an arrogant and competitive personality, but that is primarily because he wants to be the best at SOMETHING, and stand out, in a family full of extraordinary talents. He is the third best mage in the family, after Morganen and Rydan.

Evanor the Song - Dominor's twin. His talents are musical, primarily vocal. He is also the most domestic of the brothers, enjoying the day to day details of running a household. There are some who believe he will make a terrific househusband, because he loves the more domestic chores. At the moment, thanks to an injury, he has lost his voice, and thus, his magic.

Trevan the Cat - fifth born son. He, like Wolfer, is a shapeshifter, but he prefers the forms of a cat and a hawk. Unlike Wolfer, Trevan is quite outgoing and sociable, and quite the ladies man. He is also a talented woodcrafter and furniture maker.

Rydan the Storm - Trevan's twin. Rydan is the most mysterious and reclusive of the brothers. His powers are, of course, storm related, and he has quite a talent for working with stone and glass. Rydan is the second most powerful mage in the family, bested only by Morganen in power.

Koranen the Flame - seventh born son. Koranen is the least mature of the brothers in terms of personality and control. He has never been in love, because of an unfortunate inability to control his fire powers completely. Koranen is easygoing and friendly, rather like a teenager.

Morganen the Mage - Koranen's twin. The youngest of the eight brothers and the most powerful mage of them all, Morganen, according to his verse in the Song of the Sons of Destiny, also seems to be the Katani equivalent of Dear Abby and eharmony.com rolled into one. His verse, which he takes seriously, states that he is the one who will set his brothers on their course to their destinies, which seem to be the most tumultuous love lives in all of fiction at this moment in time. While he is easily one of the friendliest seeming and most approachable of the brothers, he is also devious, and not a power to trifle with. He is the one who is doing most of the matchmaking, in hopes of finally reaching HIS turn to court and marry a nice lady.

These books, while primarily fantasy genre, are also romances, which means that yes, there are some rather explicit scenes in it. NOT a fairy tale for the kiddies, but for the adults is another story...

Song of the Sons of Destiny

‘The Eldest Son shall bear this weight:
If ever true love he should feel
Disaster shall come at her heel
And Katan will fail to aid
When Sword in sheath is claimed by Maid

The Second Son shall know this fate:
He who hunts is not alone
When claw would strike and cut to bone
A chain of Silk shall bind his hand
So Wolf is caught in marriage-band

The Third of Sons shall meet his match:
Strong of will and strong of mind
You seek she who is your kind
Set your trap and be your fate
When Lady is the Master’s mate

The Fourth of Sons shall find his catch:
The purest note shall turn to sour
And weep in silence for the hour
But listen to the lonely Heart
And Song shall bind the two apart

The Fifth Son shall seek the sign:
Prowl the woods and through the trees
Before you in the woods she flees
Catch her quick and hold her fast
The Cat will find his Home at last

The Sixth Son shall draw the line:
Shun the day and rule the night
Your reign’s end shall come at light
When Dawn steals into your hall
Bride of Storm shall be your fall

The Seventh Son shall he decree:
Burning bright and searing hot
You shall seek that which is not
Mastered by desire’s name
Water shall control the Flame

The Eighth Son shall set them free:
Act in Hope and act in love
Draw down your powers from above
Set your Brothers to their call
When Mage has wed, you will be all.’
